The lighting of one hundred thousand lamps call Lakshadeepam at the Sri Anantha Padmanabhaswami Temple,in Thiruvananthapuram,to Keep alive a tradition that began in AD 1750.Lakshadeepam was celebrated once in six years(On the Makar Sankranti Day).‘Feast of light’ the phrase may seem a bit cliched to you.But when you get a glimpse of the grand Padmanabha Swamy Temple at Thiruvananthapuram when the majestic structure gets decked out with one hundred thousand lights (lakshadeepam),you will feel renewed.This event of decorating the temple with lights is held once in six years as the culminating ritual of Murajapam,a 56 Days long chanting of sacred verses.On this day,the images of Lord Padmanabha,Lord Narasimha and Lord Krishna are taken out on Garudavahana (the mythological eagle which is the vehicle of Lord Vishnu) in a grand procession.

hi, i have been to thiruvinanthpuram but i missed this festival pooja there, please tell me the exact date, so that i can approach the place

Since this happens once in 6 years, what is the crowd like ....
These lights are visible from outside the temple I believe? I ask as a foreigner who has tried unsuccessfully to enter this temple...
